Brass instruments possess a rich diversity, capable of producing both powerful and resounding tones that fill the entire concert hall, as well as gentle and warm whispers. Being air-driven, their natural vocal quality lends a singing-like character to the music, and composers often ascribe distinct roles and expressions to them, bringing the music to life. Frederic Belli, current principal trombonist of the SWR Symphony Orchestra in Germany, is active in the music scene with his innovative musical vision and masterful playing that effortlessly ranges from delicate to robust. In his first visit to Hong Kong, he will join the brass section of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta to take the audience on a journey of exploration into the world of brass chamber music. The programme begins with Susato's Renaissance dances, followed by Bruckner's warm and majestic motets, Ewazen's Trombone Quintet No. 1 in B-flat minor, and concludes with three Swedish folk songs by Morris/Nordlund/Lindberg and Hietikko's whimsical and fantastical modern piece, 'Another Cat: Kraken' (1980/1991), showcasing the multifaceted nature of the trombone and brass ensemble.
